Winter Is Here
Prepare Your Pipes Before They Freeze

As temperatures drop, the risk of frozen pipes increases, potentially causing extensive damage to your plumbing system. But fret not! We’ve got you covered with essential tips to prepare for winter and prevent frozen pipes.

If prevention isn’t possible, Balanced Plumbing has the tools and expertise to repair and replace frozen and damaged pipes to ensure your water is flowing this winter.

How To Prepare Your Plumbing For Winter

Insulate Exposed Pipes

Wrap pipes in insulation sleeves or use heat tape.

Focus on areas with minimal insulation, such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces.

Seal Cracks & Gaps

Check for gaps and seal them with caulk or insulation.

Inspect doors and windows for drafts that could chill nearby pipes.

Keep Consistent Temps

Maintain a consistent temperature, even when away, by setting your thermostat no lower than 55°F.

Cold temps allow the water in the pipes to freeze and expand.

Balanced Plumbing Is DeKalb & Kane County's EXPERT In Winter Plumbing

Whether you’re prepping for the winter, or the water is already flowing from a broken pipe – Balanced Plumbing has you covered. We’ve got the tools, knowledge, and experience to ensure your plumbing is ready for the winter, and your water is flowing throughout the cold months.

Know Your Risk: Pipes Freeze & Burst

Water expands when it freezes. Exposure to temperatures at or below 20 degrees F can cause exposed pipes to freeze. In pipes, the expansion can cause ruptures. The damage often occurs not at the point where a pipe has frozen, but between the freeze and a faucet. As the ice blocks the pipe completely and expands, the water pressure in the pipe increases. Too much pressure will cause a broken pipe.

Signs Your Pipes Are Frozen

Low Water Pressure

If water trickles instead of flowing, it may indicate a frozen pipe.

Unusual Odors

Frozen pipes can cause a lack of drainage, leading to unpleasant odors.

Frost On Pipes

Visual signs like frost on pipes are clear indicators of potential freezing.

Paul came to help us recently when our basement flooded and we were anticipating spending ALOT of money. Where other companies could have taken advantage of the situation he did not and we are so greatful. Very good company, with integrity, honesty and very knowledgeable. Thank you so much!
I recently had a pipe leak from the soffit near the ceiling in my garage and water was dripping from several different spots from the soffit into my garage floor. Paul from Balanced Plumbing of Sycamore came out and immediately located the leaking pipe and fixed the issue in a very timely manner before serious damage occurred. Paul was very professional, responsive and extremely knowledgeable. Also, his service is a very fair price. I would highly recommend this company!

Very professional, very reasonable pricing, and has always seemed to have your best interest in mind. I had almost forgotten our first meeting with him, at least a year ago, when we needed a new fitting/pipe when we were trying to install our dishwasher ourselves. He let us know that a dishwasher installation kit would include that part and save us the large amount we would have to pay for him or someone else to do it. And on top of that he waved his fee for coming out. We most recently called him out again for our water heater, ended up needing the whole thing replaced and he was out the very next day. Incredible service and very personable. We highly recommend him and will always call him when in need!

Wow, I cannot say enough about how exceptional my service was. We called Balanced Plumbing after hours for a potential gas leak and Paul came as soon as he could. Aside from being kind, he was professional, extremely knowledgeable, and ensured our home was safe for our family. While here, he also took the extra step to check our furnace, toilets, and water softener to educate us on our new home’s systems without trying to sell us on anything - he gave us options. We will be working with Paul moving forward and I would hands down recommend him to anyone. Top quality plumbing services that I trust!
